In September, 2018, Global Collaborative Law Council, founded in 2004, sponsored its Annual Collaborative Law Practice Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. On the special occasion of the retirement of longtime GCLC Executive Director Lawrence R. Maxwell, Jr., the GCLC Board of Directors established the Lawrence R. Maxwell, Jr. Scholarship for Continuing Education Around Civil Collaborative Law in honor of founder and Board Member Emeritus Lawrence R. (“Larry”) Maxwell, Jr.
Larry was a co-founder of the Texas Collaborative Law Council when it was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) Texas non-profit corporation in October, 2004. In 2009, the GCLC Board determined that the mission of GCLC had extended beyond the Texas borders, and changed the name to Global Collaborative Law Council.
Larry is a capable and perennial teacher of civil collaborative law. He has worked tirelessly for the passage of the Uniform Collaborative Law Act in jurisdictions across the United States, with a special focus on making sure that passage of the UCLA offers protections to applications of collaboration beyond the family law arena. Larry has contributed greatly to advancing collaborative practice beyond family law, nationally and internationally, by training professionals in the process and educating the public as to the benefits of the process. It is most fitting that GCLC honors Larry with a scholarship which makes it possible for GCLC to enable international teachers to attend, in person, our Annual Conferences.
The Lawrence R. Maxwell Jr. Scholarship, in an amount to cover travel and accommodation expenses for a civil collaborative faculty member, will be awarded periodically to a faculty member who is available to attend GCLC’s Annual Conference to share insight, wisdom and experience in person.
The Board of Directors is pleased to honor Larry with this small token of our deep appreciation.
